Elaboration of the Relation Between Interest Congruence and Satisfaction

Elchanan I. Meir

Tel Aviv University

In two meta-analyses (Assouline & Meir, 1987; Tranberg, Slane, & Ekeberg, 1993) of studies investigating Holland's (1985) theory of congruence, the mean congruence-satisfaction correlations were found to be around .20. It is argued that this relation is meaningful (a) despite the lack of statistical significance in each of these studies, and (b) because adequate breakdown of the correlations by content and methodological moderators reveals statistically significant mean correlations ranging from .29 to .42, p < .05.
